What is the Data Allowance Policy?

The Data Allowance Policy ensures that all Viasat customers get a fair amount of access to the Internet over the Viasat network.

What are the Data Allowance Policy Usage Thresholds?

Please note that for WildBlue plans, usage thresholds are based on a rolling 30 day period.

What Happens if I Exceed the Usage Thresholds under the Data Allowance Policy?

If the Data Allowance Policy Usage Thresholds are exceeded, upload and download speeds will be reduced.

If the usage thresholds have been exceeded, when will my speeds return to normal?

For all WildBlue plans, speeds will return to normal when Upload and Download usage from the last rolling 30 day period falls below 70% of the threshold limit.

How do I know how much data I have used?

You can monitor your current data usage online.  Please see article Monitoring My Personal Usage

  1. Remember to activate your wildblue.net email account
  2. Log in using your wildblue.net username and password

    NOTE: A wildblue.net email account is required to access the Bandwidth Tool.

The tool will show you how much data you have used.
 

What activities may cause me to exceed my Usage Thresholds?

Some activities are more likely to cause an account to exceed the upload and/or download Usage Thresholds under the Data Allowance Policy.  Several examples are:

  • Full-length movie downloads
  • Unsecure Wireless Router
  • Heavy use of peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs such as Limewire, BitTorrent, etc.
  • Downloading or viewing streaming media content such as; online videos, music, Internet radio
  • Extended use of Web cameras, especially if they are constantly streaming 
  • Extensive downloading of large applications or files
  • Extensive uploading of home movies, photos, and/or large email attachments
  • Uploading documents to an Online Backup Service
     

How does Viasat notify customers that they may be close to exceeding their Usage Thresholds?

 You will receive a notification email at the contact email address Viasat has on file when your usage reaches 80% of the Usage Threshold.
